One, two, three, four. Hi, friends. Welcome to season two, episode one of Talk It Out, Walk It Out, the podcast where we don't just talk about what we're going through. We take real intentional steps to walk it out. I'm your host, Adia Thompson White, and I'm so glad you're here.
Adia Thompson White:If you're a woman over 30 navigating life's twists and turns, maybe you're feeling stuck, maybe you're in a season of change, or maybe you're just trying to catch your breath, this podcast is for you. And speaking of life's twists and turns, today's episode is all about the pivot. We're going to talk about what happens when you feel the winds of change blowing through your life. Whether it's feelings of boredom, frustration, anxiety, or just this inner knowing that it's time for something different. It can all be exciting and terrifying at the same time because with change comes uncertainty.
Adia Thompson White:You start asking, what do I do next? What am I even capable of? Am I living out my God-given purpose or just going through the motions? If that's where you are right now, sis, you are not alone.
Adia Thompson White:And honestly, you're in the perfect place for a pivot. Let me share something my therapist recently said to me that completely reframed how I think about change. And it seems really simple. She said, "If you want to change, change."
Adia Thompson White:Let that sink in for a second. If you want to change, change.
Adia Thompson White:We treat our goals like they're set in stone. Like once we commit to something, we can't adjust or evolve. But the truth is, your goals aren't static. Your life isn't static. If your goals no longer serve the version of the woman you're becoming, you have the power to shift.
Adia Thompson White:Fo rmer news anchor Jeanette Reyes recently said, "You don't owe the old version of yourself a lifetime subscription."
Adia Thompson White:Let me say that again. You don't owe the old version of yourself a lifetime subscription.
Adia Thompson White:I was completely blown away when I heard her say that. And by the way, if you don't follow her on social media at Miss News Lady, you're missing out. Last year, she made a major pivot in her career. She left news behind and she entered the world of full-time content creation. And she's been speaking openly over the last year about her pivot, her thought process, and even what she did to prepare. So like I said, check her out.
Adia Thompson White:She and her family are also pretty funny. Her husband, Robert, who also stepped away from news to delve into content creation, is hilarious. They have a cute daughter. Her mother-in-law has become famous in and of herself. But yeah, check them out.
Adia Thompson White:But back on topic. Now I get it. So pivoting can feel pretty scary, especially when we don't have all the answers. But another piece of advice my therapist gave me was this, plan with the information you have now. Listen, it's good to plan. I am type A, I love to plan. I have a planner, I have Google Calendar, I have lists. I need to know what's gonna happen from one point to the other. But when we try to map out every single step five years ahead, even a year ahead, next month even, we can get overwhelmed because we just don't have all the data yet.
Adia Thompson White:Trying to solve all the problems that haven't happened is a fast track to anxiety. Ask me how I know.
Adia Thompson White:So instead ask, what do I know right now? What's the next step? Not the next 20, just the next one.
Adia Thompson White:Here's another thing she said that I love: Don't panic. Pivot.
Adia Thompson White:L ife is going to change. You will change. That doesn't mean you failed. It means you're growing. It means you're paying attention.
Adia Thompson White:Maybe you've been serving quietly behind the scenes for years, but now you feel a tug to step forward, to lead, to speak, to teach. That's purpose stirring inside of you.
Adia Thompson White:Maybe you've poured yourself into raising a family, and now you feel a spark to rediscover the dreams and passions you set aside. It's not too late. You're not starting over. You're starting fresh.
Adia Thompson White:Maybe you've been saying yes to everything to keep the peace, but now you're learning to say no without guilt. Protecting your peace is a powerful pivot too.
Adia Thompson White:Whatever it is, don't panic, pivot.
Adia Thompson White:Finally, I want you to remember you have fight in you. Anxiety, fear, confusion, all of these emotions can feel familiar. can even feel comfortable. But sis, you have more strength than you think. You have the power to rise, to pivot, to press forward, even if it's just one step at a time.
Adia Thompson White:You're not alone. You're not behind. You're becoming.
Adia Thompson White:So here's your walk it out moment for today.
Adia Thompson White:W hat's one thing you can do today to move forward? Just one. Maybe it's journaling your thoughts. Maybe it's scheduling that therapy session. Maybe it's updating your resume or reaching out to someone who's already doing what you dream of. Whatever it is, take one step. You don't have to do it all today.
Adia Thompson White:DM me on Instagram at Thrive with Adia and let me know what step you're taking. Let's encourage each other to keep moving forward.
Adia Thompson White:That's all for today. Thanks for joining. Until next time, bye.
